Common Questions

Hardwood & LVP FAQs

Does hardwood flooring work in Arizona's dry climate?
Engineered hardwood — yes, absolutely. Solid hardwood is risky here because of seasonal humidity swings (sub-15% in summer, 60%+ in monsoon) that cause cupping, gapping, and squeaks. Engineered hardwood uses a multi-layer plywood core that stays dimensionally stable. Same real-wood top layer, none of the headaches.
What's the difference between hardwood and LVP?
Hardwood = real wood top layer (engineered) on a stable plywood base. Premium feel, can be refinished once or twice, $9–$16/sq ft installed. LVP (luxury vinyl plank) = high-resolution photo of wood on a waterproof vinyl core. 100% waterproof, scratch-resistant, $6–$10/sq ft installed. Both look great. LVP wins for kitchens, bathrooms, and rentals; hardwood wins for primary living spaces and resale.
How much does hardwood/LVP installation cost in Phoenix?
Engineered hardwood: $9–$16/sq ft installed depending on species, plank width, and finish. Premium LVP: $6–$10/sq ft installed. Wide-plank white oak (8\" wide, wire-brushed) lands around $12–$14/sq ft. We quote on the spot during the in-home estimate.
Can you install hardwood over concrete slab?
Yes — engineered hardwood is rated for slab installation with a moisture barrier and proper underlayment. Solid hardwood requires a plywood subfloor (uncommon in AZ slab homes). LVP installs directly over slab with a thin underlayment. Most AZ slab installs are engineered or LVP for that reason.
How long does a hardwood install take?
Demo + prep: 1 day. Acclimation (engineered): 1–2 days on-site before install. Install: 2–4 days for 1,000–2,000 sq ft. Trim + finish: 1 day. Most whole-home installs (2,000–3,000 sq ft) finish in 5–8 working days.
